Summary Attorney General Salman Butt failed to satisfy the Senate upon the matter
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The opposition in the Senate on Friday has criticised former chief justice (CJ) of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for enjoying government benefits and facilities including a bullet proof car when he is no longer in power.
Aitzaz Ahsan said that the former CJ is building a fancy house in Lahore while he had borrowed money for his son’s wedding around two years ago. Attorney General Salman Butt failed to satisfy the Senate upon the matter. The Law Minister presented the details of the facilities provided by the government to all the retired CJs and it came to the notice of the members that Chaudhry is enjoying additional facilities that are not permitted by the government.
The former CJ has a 6,000 cc bullet proof car and the government has provided at least Rs 3,375,000 for its maintenance and at least 4689 litre petrol so far. Attorney General Salman Butt said that this exceptional case has been permitted facilities by the government after court’s order. Opposition leader in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan said that Chaudhry provided legal protection to his son after numerous corruption allegations. He demanded the government to order Chaudhry to satisfy the people over the matter with an explanation.
However, Farhatullah Babar was stopped from presenting a resolution regarding Chaudhry’s appearance before the Senate to explain his side.
