Summary ECP started scrutinizing papers filed by candidates, 11 govt departments appointed focal persons

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started scrutinizing the nomination papers filed by the candidates for the senate elections on Monday. All 11 government departments have appointed focal persons for the ECP in case it needs to verify any documents. All the departments will be liable to respond within 24 hours.

According to the details, the scrutiny process of the senate candidates has been started by the ECP. National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), National Database and Registry Authority (NADRA), State Bank of Pakistan, Interior Ministry, Ministry of Water and Power, WAPDA and PEPCO have appointed focal persons as well for helping the ECP in scrutinizing the papers.

ECP officials have started sending the details of the nomination papers to the concerned departments for verification of the data provided by the candidates. All the focal persons have been directed to answer the ECP’s queries within 24 hours.

Formal scrutiny of the senate election candidates before the Returning Officers will be conducted on 19th and 20th of February. Presence of seconder and referrer has been declared mandatory at the time of formal scrutiny. Papers can be rejected in case none of the two is present at the time of interview.

Appeals can be filed before Secretary Election Commission and provincial Election Commissioner on 23rd and 24th of February in case of rejection of papers. Papers can be withdrawn on 28th of February.
