Summary Standing Committee for Science and Technology revealed that sea-level rising by 1.3 mm every year
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Senate’s Standing Committee for Science and Technology has revealed that the sea level is increasing by 1.3 mili-meter every year in Pakistan and warned that Sindh might get submerged in the Arabian Sea by 2060.
Meeting of the Senate’s Standing Committee for Science and Technology was presided over by Senator Sajid Mir on Monday. It was revealed in the meeting that sea level in Pakistan was rising at 1.3 mili-meter per year. Standing Committee was told that 80 kilometers of land on the banks of Hyderabad, Thattha and Badin had been submerged into water.
Expressing his concern, Senator Karim Khawaja told that Sindh was threatened of being submerged into the sea by 2060.
Committee recommended preparation of a grand plan for inspecting the situation in the coastal areas of Sindh.
