Summary The opposition parties in the NA have submitted a requisition against the petrol shortage
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The committee formed by the Prime Minister (PM) to probe the issue of countrywide petrol crisis has declared the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) responsible on Tuesday and gave the ministers clean chit in its initial report.
According to the details, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Deputy Managing Director Finance Sohail Butt has been suspended. The PM has issued directives to the authorities concerned to take measures that could eliminate the slightest threat of petrol crisis in the future.
Moreover, the opposition parties in the National Assembly (NA) have submitted a requisition to call a meeting of the NA members regarding the ongoing petrol shortage in the country.
PM Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review the actions taken to curb petrol crisis in the country. The committee formed to probe the issue presented its initial report in the meeting according to which OGRA is responsible for the ongoing petrol crisis. However, no government official or minister has been declared responsible in the report. The report puts the issue entirely on the shoulders of OGRA.
According to the report, OGRA has been inefficient in regulating the supply of the petroleum products which is its responsibility. OGRA is also responsible to keep the stock which it did not, the report states. The meeting remarked that the decision regarding suspension of as many as four officials is correct and just.
Moreover, PSO Deputy Managing Director Finance has also been suspended in the issue.
Separately, the opposition parties in the NA have submitted a requisition against the petrol shortage. The requisition maintains a stance that the people of the country are facing severe problems due to petrol crisis and the government must take much needed measures to curb the petrol shortage.
