ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – GEO Television and Jang Group owner Mir Shakeelur Rehman on Wednesday fled the country after the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Gilgit-Baltistan sentenced him to 26 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.3 million for broadcasting an alleged blasphemous programme.
According to sources, a government agency helped Rehman flew to Dubai in the morning through Emirates Airline.
Earlier, the court had given directives to Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, IG Punjab and IG Sindh to arrest Rehman through Interpol.
The ATC had also ordered to seize Rehman’s passport and property.
Rehman was accused of blasphemy after GEO Television broadcast a programme which allegedly insulted the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
