Summary Christian couple Shehzad Masih and Shama Bibi were killed by an angry mob in Kot Radha Kishan.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – While chairing the meeting of the Federal Cabinet in Islamabad on Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the killing of a Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan village in Punjab province.

The Prime Minister stated that those responsible in the incident will be brought to justice.

Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to review the Kot Radha Kishan incident.

The Chief Minister stated that the incident is ‘heart-wrenching’ and stern action will be taken against the perpetrators.

The incident took place in a village in Punjab province on Tuesday when a local cleric told his community through the loudspeakers of his mosque to punish the couple for burning a few pages of the Quran.

Soon after the announcement, an enraged mob gathered outside the house of Shehzad Masih, 32, and his wife Shama, in her 20s, dragged them out and beat them to death and burned their bodies in a brick kiln for allegedly desecrating Quran.

Local police registered a case against 660 villagers and blocked roads leading into the Christian-dominated town of Chak 59, which lies about 2 miles from the location where the incident took place.

At least 43 suspects have been arrested so far.
