Summary Sirajul Haq met Shah Mehmood, demanded government to take first step in starting negotiations

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has given opposition Jirga the mandate to help government and PTI to resume talks. Jamaat Islami (JI) head Maulana Sirajul Haq met Vice Chairman PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi today (Monday) in Islamabad and demanded that the government must take the initiative to resume talks. He said that several days have passed yet no step has been taken to advance electoral reforms.

Talking to media after the meeting, Shah Mehmood said that if the government acted seriously like Sirajul Haq did, the conditions would have been different. He said that the government is also taking political jirga non-seriously. “PTI is ready for talks but the question is if the government wants negotiations or not”, he said.

JI head Sirajul Haq said that government should show courage and initiate the negotiations. He said that the next election will also be disputed if held without electoral reforms. He said that the government has taken no steps for advancing electoral reforms. “Government will have to act seriously”, he said. “Tahirul Qadri’s announcement to take part in elections is a positive thing. We hope that he will stand firm on his decision”, Sirajul Haq said.
