BAJAUR (Dunya News) — At least three security officials were injured in a remote-controlled bomb blast near a vehicle provided for security of polio teams in Bajaur Agency on Wednesday, Dunya News reported. The vehicle of security forces was damaged in the blast.

According to Bajaur Agency authorities, the blast took place in Mamund Tehsil early morning on Wednesday. The attack occurred when a convoy of security forces was in a private car heading for the security of polio workers in Dabar area of Mamund Tehsil. The authorities told that some unknown men had planted remote-controlled bomb near the graveyard on the roadside. There was a huge blast when the security forces’ vehicle reached near the spot injuring at least three security men and completely damaging the car.

Residents of the area and the peace committee volunteers arrived at the sight of the blast immediately to begin the rescue operation. The injured were shifted to the Agency Headquarters Hospital for medical aid.

No one has claimed the responsibility for the attack so far. Security forces personnel and administration officials also arrived at the scene. Search operation was initiated after the area was cordoned off.

According to the residents of the area, police has arrested several people primarily responsible for ensuring regional security.

On Tuesday, banned organizations of Taliban had distributed a pamphlet in different parts of Bajaur Agency which carried warnings to the security officials for participating in the polio campaign. The pamphlet clearly stated that the Taliban would target the security officials’ who are part of the polio campaign. The pamphlet also warned the locals to stay away from the polio campaign.
