ISLAMABAD (Dunya News)—Opposition jirga led by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq on Thursday met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Prime Minister House Islamabad to notify about the talks between the opposition group and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leadership. Present in the meeting were Rehman Malik, Liaqat Baloch, Kalsoom Parveen and GG Jamal. Opposition jirga briefed Nawaz Sharif on its negations with PTI and PAT. Former Interior Minister Rehman Malik informed about opposition’s point of view with reference to the opposition jirga meeting held late Wednesday. Nawaz Sharif appreciated the efforts of the opposition jirga.
The pressure on Nawaz Sharif slightly eased on Tuesday after opposition parties in parliament backed him to continue, and after Javed Hashmi claimed that Khan had acted on the army’s direction, damaging the movement’s credibility.
Parliament called a second emergency session on Wednesday with senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi saying the party was willing to resume talks with the government in the presence of a cross-party team.
After Wednesday’s meeting between opposition lawmakers and the PTI and PAT leaders, Sirajul Haq told the media that they have had 70% success, adding that it still needs more time.
Haq said the harsh statements from both sides are adding to trouble, he requested both sides to tone it down.
“If our common agenda is constitution, democracy and parliament, success is near. The light of solution will reach the whole Pakistan soon”, he said.
Addressing the media, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader said “negativity breeds negativity, love breeds love”.
He requested the Prime Minister to command his team not to use harsh language against PTI leaders, adding that PTI had already toned it down today.
He hoped that the nation will be able to see way forward in next 48 hours. He said the deadlock in dialogue has ended because of efforts of political Jirga.
The political Jirga under headship of Jamaat Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq met PTI and PAT leaders on Wednesday evening in a bid to end the political impasse which has gripped the country since August 14. During the meeting, PTI was represented by Jahangir Tareen, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pervaiz Khattak, whereas Ishaq Dar, Mian Javed Shafiq and Zahid Hamid represented the government delegation.
