Summary Shahbaz Sharif has offered Rs 5 Lac and Rs 1Lac each for the dead and injured, respectively.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – At least 28 people have been killed and dozens injured as roofs of several houses collapsed due to incessant rains in Punjab today.

Three people died and two injured in Niaz Biag as roof collapsed whereas heavy rain took three lives when the ceiling collapsed in Defence Phase VI.

The total death toll due to the incessant rains has reached up to 28.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has grieved that deaths and has offered Rs 5 Lac each to the families of the dead persons and Rs 1 Lac each to the injured.

Strong monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in Punjab and likely to continue during next 2 to 3 days. Met Office has issued flood warnings in River Chenab at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad as the level of water is likely to rise ranging between 350,000 cusecs to 450,000 cusecs.

Earlier, At least six people, including two women and a child, were killed in roof collapse incidents in different areas of the city on Wednesday.

According to details, roof of a double storey building collapsed in Chah Miran area due to torrential rain, killing six people. The deceased included two women and a kid.

Separately, four people were badly injured when roof of a house collapsed in Mozang area while four more people were wounded when roof of a house collapsed in Johar Town area.

Lahore and its suburbs received heavy rain on Wednesday. Several roads in the city were submerged under three to four feet of rainwater. Dozens of motorcycles and cars were trapped on flooded roads and people faced hardship in reaching their homes.
