Summary Processions in Karachi and Lahore followed the route and reached their destinations peacefully.
LAHORE/KARACHI: (Dunya News) Yaum-e-Ali (Ali Day) began from Mubarik Haveli in Lahore and ended after reaching its destination at Karbala Gaamay Shah. The central procession took its traditional route from Mubarik Haveli and ended at Karbala Gamay Shah after passing through Bhaati Gate area.
Strict security was observed throughout the route. Police, Civil Defense and Rescue teams were along with the procession. Entire route and the adjoining roads were blocked by barbed wires. Ban on pillion ride was imposed on the routes of the procession.
In Karachi, Allama Talib Johri addressed a gathering at Nishter Park on the occasion. After the gathering, the central procession began from Nishter Park and reached Numaesh Chorangi. Zuhrain prayer was offered at Imam Bargaah Hazrat Ali (R.A) on M.A. Jinnah Road.
A protest was staged on this occasion by Imamia Students Organization (ISO) on M.A. Jinnah Road. Another protest was held by the participants of the procession on M.A. Jinnah Road against the arrest of three boys. The protesters staged a sit-in as well which continued for four hours. The sit-in was called off when the government assured the protesters of boys’ release.
The central procession took its traditional route through Sea Breeze Plaza, Rainbow Center, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, Tibet Center, Radio Pakistan, Jamia Cloth Market and Light House and ended at the Hussainia Irania Kharaadar at the time of Iftar.
Strict security was observed on this occasion. 16,000 police officials were deployed for the security of the procession. All adjoining roads and streets were blocked with the help of containers, water tankers and other means. Members of Bomb Disposal Squad were also walking along with the procession. Sniper shooters were deployed on multi-storey buildings. 20 mobiles with CCTV Camera facility also patrolled the route.
The processions remained peaceful and no unwanted incident took place.
