Summary 14 persons including Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf have been made party to the petition.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Federal government on Tuesday challenged Islamabad High Court’s decision to reinstate Zaka Ashraf as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman in Supreme Court, Dunya News reported.
Inter-Provincial Coordination filed the petition in Supreme Court through Counsel Asma Jehangir challenging Ashraf’s reinstatement.
The petition challenges the Islamabad High Court’s single bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi’s decision, pleading the apex court to set aside the reinstatement.
The petition maintains that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is the patron-in-chief of PCB and that he has the authority to make administrative changes.
It says that PCB’s governing board had expressed confidence over ousted chairman Najam Sethi. It is further said in the petition that the high court ruled without hearing the defence’s side, seeking restoration of Prime Minister’s executive order to out Zaka Ashraf.
It further seeks restoration of interim management as per the SRO issued on February 10 this year.
14 persons including Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf have been made party to the petition.
The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination had also filed an appeal in Islamabad High Court prior to moving Supreme Court but had withdrawn it.
