Summary Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired the meeting of National Security Committee.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The meeting of National Security Committee headed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held here on Thursday.

Ministers of Defense and Interior, Advisor on National Security, chiefs of three services Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Directors General Inter-Services Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed overall national security situation besides other matters of national importance.

According to the sources, issue of ceasefire with Taliban and post presidential situation in Afghanistan was discussed during the meeting.

DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) briefed the meeting about Afghan border situation, Karachi operation and Balochistan situation.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan briefed the participants about the security situation and the strategy of dialogue with the Taliban to counter terrorism.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed the Committee regarding issuance of Euro bond and said that it was historic return to the international bond market which was a successful stride.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the Committee is the highest forum of consultation in which all state institutions express their opinion on national issues.

He said the Committee provides a forum to the institutions to give suggestions for resolution of issues and national development.

The PM said this forum takes decisions on national issues with collective wisdom.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif briefed the participants about his recent visit to China and the latest situation on the proposed Pak-China trade corridor.

He also briefed on the development projects in energy and communication sectors which will be completed at a cost of thirty five billion dollars on priority basis with Chinese assistance.

The PM expressed the confidence that the trade corridor will go a long way in generating economic activities in the region.

The Advisor on National Security briefed the meeting regarding Afghan situation and the transition process after recently held presidential elections in Afghanistan.

The National Security Committee has resolved to make Pakistan a cradle of peace in the region to ensure stability and progress.

The committee also expressed the resolve to forge better relations with neighbouring countries.
