MUZAFFARGARH (Dunya News) – Additional Inspector General (AIG) Police Khalid Dad Lak arrived here on Tuesday to investigate the 18-year-old student’s self immolation case.
Investigation officer Zulfiqar and key accused Nadir would be produced in the court on Wednesday for extension of their remand would be sought.
DSP Jatoi and SHO Shehr Sultan, who were, also wanted in the case, had been detained d while former DSP Jatoi Abdul Latif Kanju was arrested from Islamabad. SHO
SP Sadar Muzaffargarh Chaudhry Ghulam Asghar and SHO Mir Hazar Khan Rai Shahid were still absconders. Action was taken against these police officers after Dunya News highlighted the issue and a case was registered against them under sections of terrorism, murder tempering with the evidences but some officers facilitated the escape of their colleagues.
On the other hand, Special Anti Terrorism Court has sent Investigation officer of the case Zulfiqar on three day-remand.
On Monday, the Supreme Court has sought investigation report from police in ten days about self-immolation of a teenage girl in Muzaffargarh.
A three member bench headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani gave the order while hearing a suo motu case in Islamabad today (Monday).
During the hearing, Punjab IG told the apex court that five persons have backed the victim’s statement that she was raped. Business dispute between both families led to the enmity.
He told court that Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP), who was investigating the matter, had declared the main accused Nadir innocent.
Victim’s sister Raheela was married to accused Nadir Hussain’s brother, therefore, she opposed the case too, the report added.
Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani said that when police was present, why it led to the suicide. The girl was not satisfied with the attitude and investigation of the police.
If the police had tried, the incident would not have happened, the bench said.
Later, the apex court directed the three-member investigation committee, headed by Additional IG Khalid Daad, to present inquiry report within 10 days.
On March 13, 18-year-old Amina doused herself with petrol and set herself alight in front of a police station in the village of Beet Meer Hazar in Muzaffargarh district of Punjab province.
She was taken to a nearby government-run hospital where the doctors tried to save her but succumbed to her injuries early on Friday, police said.
She was allegedly assaulted by four men, including a family member, in early January and reported the incident to police.
But a local court in Muzaffargarh dropped the case last week following a police report which said she had not been raped, prompting the victim to take the desperate measure.
