Summary At least 19 new polio cases have been registered this year in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Two new cases of polio virus were confirmed in North Waziristan on Friday.

According to laboratory reports, both victims of polio including one and a half year old Fatima and Sadas are the residence of Miranshah. The reports show that both the children never took any single dose of polio vaccination.

According to the national health department report, country has registered 19 cases this year and 17 of them were confirmed in North Waziristan Agency while two others belong to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The reports said that North Waziristan Agency had recorded 44 cases, highest number of the 92 cases registered in the country in 2013.

Sources claimed that 0.26 million children were deprived of polio drops in North Waziristan.

It may be noted here that outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had imposed ban on anti-polio campaign in North and South Waziristan since June 2012.

The international health organizations have declared the polio vaccination inevitable in the conflict areas in North Waziristan.
