Summary The meeting headed by the PM discussed key issues of formulation of National Security Strategy.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security here on Tuesday.

Advisor on National Security Sartaj Aziz‚ Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan‚ Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif‚ Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and some other federal ministers besides services chiefs and Chairman Joint Staff Committee attended the meeting.

The committee focused on key issues of formulation of National Security Strategy to safeguard national interests; strategy on Internal Security; and relations with Afghanistan.

During meeting, Director General Military Operation (DGMO) briefed the meeting regarding internal security situation.
Secretary Interior and Director General ISI briefed the meeting about internal security situation and successes in the ongoing operation in Karachi to bring peace in the city.

The Committee agreed that the economic development and prosperity of the people of Pakistan depends upon ensuring security and stability of the country.

The Committee agreed on a number measures concerning enhancement of security on western border‚ development of FATA and other bordering areas to bring them at par with national standards.

The committee directed the concerned ministries to take measures to facilitate regional peace and stability.

The Committee deliberated upon the government’s strategy to engage various groups of Pakistani Taliban to address issues of extremism and militancy.

The Committee reaffirmed Government’s commitment to the strategy of negotiations with TTP and considered the use of other options only as a last resort.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif briefed the members of the Committee on his last visit to Kabul. He said a number of steps were agreed for political security and economic and commercial cooperation with the Afghanistan.

Earlier‚ Chief of Army of Staff General Raheel Sharif called on the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed the issues relating to the national security.
