ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has convened an emergency meeting on Saturday (today) to discuss law and order situation in the country.
The meeting, which will be attended by senior officials of the law enforcing agencies, will discuss the security situation especially in the context of assassination of Maulana Shams Urrehman Muavia.
Earlier, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad and discussed the emerging situation in the aftermath of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jammat leader Shamsur Rehman Muawiya’s killing.
The Interior Minister also briefed the premier over investigation of the case.
On Friday, the incident took place as Shamsur Rehman Muawiya, the chief of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jammat (ASWJ) for Punjab province, travelled by car to the northern Harbans Pura neighbourhood.
"Two gunmen riding a motorbike opened fire on Muawiya s vehicle, wounding him and his driver critically," senior local police official, Rana Abdul Jabbar, told AFP.
He said Shasur Rehman Muawiya was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while the driver remains in a critical condition.
"We are investigating the incident but it apparently seems to be a target killing," the police official said.
