RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – The police officers confessed to the Fact Finding Committee that the violence in the city occurred due to their negligence.
Former RPO Zaeem Iqbal Sheikh told the committee that he was out of Rawalpindi at the time of incident as he was engaged in aerial surveillance on the information of presence of a terrorist namely Jamil alias Jangrez in Attock and Pind Dadan Khan areas.
Sheikh also confirmed the report that the police officials escaped from the scene when the clashes started. He held CPO responsible for security matters and said that he was not informed about the incident in time.
In his statement, the RPO said that firing was underway when he arrived at the scene while his officers fled leaving him alone at the scene.
SP Traffic Haseeb Shah stated that he forwarded information of worsening situation at the Police Control and demanded more contingents but he was ignored.
He added that police officials including SP Chaudhry Haneef Jamaat Ali Bukhari and SSP Sikandar Hayat arrived at the location of seminary after half an hour, however the situation had got so intensified that they were compelled to leave the spot.
