ISLAMABAD (Web News) - Information Minister Parvaiz Rashid has said that steps regarding Pervez Musharraf s trial have been taken at an appropriate time.

Addressing a media conference in Islamabad‚ the minister said that former president Pervez Musharraf would have been sitting abroad, had the government not initiated the process of trial against him.

Regarding nominations of other aides of Musharraf‚ which were part of the conspiracy‚ he said judiciary will chart its course for future proceedings.

Pervaiz Rashid said all previous false narratives against Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had been proved to be wrong and PML-N has fulfilled its promise.

He said the government is committed to pass and implement the law regarding right to information. However‚ he stressed on media to play their role responsibly.

He praised the role of media about the recent Rawalpindi tragedy and said both print and electronic media chose their words and pictures carefully and hence the nation averted a calamity.

Earlier‚ addressing a seminar regarding Right to Information Law‚ the Minister said in past even Prime Ministers had not been given access to right information. He said corruption can be controlled by giving media access to accurate information.

The Minister said the government will bring a comprehensive right to information act to ensure easy and unhindered access of information to the people.

He said the concerned standing committee has unanimously passed the right to information bill‚ however‚ there is room to further improve the document. He assured that inputs of all relevant stakeholders will be incorporated in the act.

He said access to information is the fundamental right of the people and the practice of hiding information should come to an end.
