ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government has taken notice of the spread of hate speech on social media and mobile phones following the Rawalpindi mayhem.

The Ministry of Information Technology has been directed to identify data of such content from cellular companies and internet service providers. The federal government has called for immediate action under existing law against individuals who spread hate speech via mobile phones and social media.

The decision was taken after ten people were killed in clashes during the Ashura procession in Rawalpindi. Following the clashes, social media was used to spread baseless messages of religious hatred.
