BERLIN (Web News) Pakistan s Ambassador in Germany says the legitimate struggle of Kashmiris for self-determination is destined to succeed.

Foreign Secretary-designate and Pakistan s ambassador in Germany Abdul Basit has called for permanent settlement of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Addressing a Seminar organized by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin to mark the 27th October as the Kashmir Black Day‚ he termed issue of Jammu and Kashmir as  sine qua non  for a viable and lasting peace in South Asia.

The Ambassador said the legitimate struggle of Kashmiris for self-determination is destined to succeed and the soul of freedom cannot be suppressed. Highlighting Pakistan s principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute‚ he said Pakistan was always ready to fulfill its commitments but unfortunately it was India that continued to procrastinate and prevaricate.

Abdul Basit said states cannot claim to be democratic if their attitudes and policies are anti-people and antithetical to the principles of international law. He said it is incumbent upon the international community to help resolve this long-pending dispute‚ allowing the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their own future.

On this juncture‚ representative of Amnesty International Dr. Michael Gottlob gave a vivid account of human rights violations and the atrocities being committed by Indian army and other law enforcing agencies in Indian Occupied Kashmir. He condemned the Kashmir-specific draconian laws and demanded their repeal immediately.

Earlier‚ a one-minute silence was observed by the audience to pay homage to the Kashmiri people who sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom of their homeland.

Two documentary films explaining the genesis of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute‚ valiant struggle of Kashmiri people against the occupying Indian forces and human rights violations by the Indian forces were also screened.
