Summary President Zardari says PPP will continue the politics of reconciliation during the next five years.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hosted a luncheon in honour of President Asif Ali Zardari at the PM House here on Thursday.

Speaking on this occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif paid rich tributes to the outgoing President for promoting politics of reconciliation which led smooth transition of power in democratic way.

The PM said that President Asif Ali Zardari played a vital role in strengthening democratic system and surrendered his powers to the parliament.

He said it is unique occasion in the history of Pakistan that a democratically elected President is leaving his office with dignity and honour after completing his tenure while the newly elected President is about to take charge of the office.

The Prime Minister said time has come that the country should be ruled purely on democratic way and the governments should come and go through this process. He said all political forces must reject undemocratic ways to change the government.

He hoped that the President-elect Mamnoon Hussain will also play positive role for strengthening of democracy and institutions.

In his remarks‚ President Asif Ali Zardari said despite hurdles he made relentless efforts for supremacy of constitution and democratic values.

He announced full support to the government of Nawaz Sharif to resolve the challenges being faced by the country.

The President said that Pakistan peoples Party will fully support the government and carry forward the politics of reconciliation during the next five years for this purpose and no politics will be made on the national issues.

Zardari said that all the political parties should stand together for the future of the country otherwise it could face a Syria like situation.

He said politics will be done when the incumbent government will go into elections after completing its five years tenure.

The President said the national reconciliation policy during the last five years led to the unanimous passage of constitutional Amendments including 18th amendment. He thanked the PML-N for supporting the PPP government in strengthening democratic institutions.

He said the previous government gave Balochistan package and identity to Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa but still a lot more needs to be done to address the grievances of the provinces.

Heads of main political parties, chief of the army staff, the chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, provincial governors and chief ministers attended the luncheon.

Governor and Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, PM Azad Jammu and Kashmir were also invited. However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf did not attend the luncheon despite invitation by the PM house.

Earlier‚ Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and discussed with him overall situation of the country.

The PM took the President in confidence on decisions taken for restoration of law and order situation in Karachi.
