Summary Special federal cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
KARACHI (Dunya News) - The invitation sent to the Muttahaida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to attend special session of the federal cabinet has been cancelled today (Tuesday).
It may be mentioned here that MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar had been invited to attend the session on the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Farooq Sattar was likely to brief cabinet regarding overall situation and deployment of army in the troubled city.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Chief secretary Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry and the heads of intelligence agencies have been invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday.
The decision to exclude MQM from cabinet session came on the same day when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Karachi on a two-day visit.
Later today, MQM Coordination Committee held an emergency press conference and expressed disappointment over withdrawal of the invitation.
MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that his party has always played a positive role to bring normalcy to the city.
He said that 85% public mandate is with the MQM, adding that decision over Karachi’s fate cannot be made in Islamabad.
We knew that Prime Minister would come under pressure, he added.
The MQM leader said that the provincial government has failed in controlling the volatile situation in Karachi, and after calling off MQM’s participation from cabinet meeting and All Parties Conference, the federal government has disappointed the citizens.
