Protest outside PA: Several PTI leaders, activists arrested

Summary PTI staged a sit-in protest outside the Punjab Assembly against alleged rigging in the by-elections.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leaders and activists were arrested in Lahore on Saturday.

PTI workers had staged a sit-in at Chairing Cross in front of Punjab Assembly against the alleged rigging during by-elections.

Due to ongoing protest, several roads were blocked and the citizens were facing difficulties.

As per details, police also arrested opposition leader Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab Chapter Ejaz Chaudhry and PTI’s Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas.

The police crackdown drew strong criticism from the PTI chairman Imran Khan and other senior leaders.

PTI leader Asad Umar said "staging protest is our democratic right and the situation will get worse if the arrested workers of were not released."

DCO Naseem Sadiq said that protest could not be held at the Mall Road due to imposition of Section 144.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered police to immediately release the PTI leaders and workers.
