ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan says all channels of communication are open with India and new signals coming from the eastern neighbor indicate that tensions are reducing.

 

Speaking at the weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Friday‚ the Foreign Office spokesman said we conveyed our concerns on the LoC ceasefire violations to India in a clear way. He said diplomatic‚ military and trade channels are some of the means through which we have communications going on. He said Pakistan s policy is based on restraint‚ responsibility and dialogue.

 

He said Pakistan has a long-standing position that it will not allow its soil to be used for terrorism. Pakistan being itself victim of terrorism cannot allow this to happen. He said we are totally committed to eradicate the menace of terrorism.

 

Terming the visit of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon very successful‚ the FO spokesman said Pakistan is committed to UN goals for peace‚ stability and social welfare. When asked to clarify the position of UN Secretary General on drone strikes‚ he said the Secretary General has said clearly that use of drones should be subject to international law.

 

When asked if Pakistan would grant the status of Most Favoured Nation to India‚ the spokesman said there needs to build consensus with stakeholders in Pakistan. He said government is committed to normalizing its trade relations with India and will try to further expand these.

 

On a question on the recent situation in Egypt‚ the spokesman said Pakistan views with concern the recent bloodshed in that country and we are hopeful that all parties resolve their issues amicably to help give democracy a chance to flourish.
