Dramatic standoff in Islamabad seen by entire world, says CJP

QUETTA (Dunya News) - Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed outrage over the Islamabad standoff.

 

The CJP expressed these remarks while presiding over a two-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of suo motu notice on missing persons and recent violence related incidents in Balochistan at SC Quetta registry Friday.

 

During proceedings, Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that a person had taken Islamabad hostage for several hours and the shameful incident was seen by the entire world.

 

A gunman shut down the heart of the heavily guarded capital for five hours in a standoff that ended with him being shot and wounded. Waving two semi-automatic guns and occasionally firing into the air, Mohammad Sikandar was accompanied by his wife and children throughout the tense drama late Thursday that took place close to Islamabad’s political quarter.

 

The Chief Justice was also critical of the security situation in Balochistan, stating that no one was interested in the province. He said no was paying any attention to the attack on Ziarat residency.
