Summary Indian troops have violated LoC ceasefire for the 34th time during last twelve days.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Indian troops continued Line of Control (LoC) violations in Kotli and Battal sectors by openening unprovoked fire.
According to military sources‚ Indian troops targeted civil population on Thursday and fired over eight hundred mortar and artillery shells injuring six civilians in Kotli sector.
It may be mentioned that Indian troops have violated LoC ceasefire for the 34th time during last twelve days.
Two civilians Muhammad Zubair of Ghambar village in Battal sector and Sakhi Muhammad of Dabbi Dhar village also in Battal sector embraced shahadat on 11th and 14th August respectively and eight other civilians received injuries due to these violations.
Four soldiers have also got injured in these violations.
A 2003 cease-fire agreement has largely calmed the military line between the countries, although each side occasionally accuses the other of violating it by firing mortars or gunshots across the line of control.
The border clashes threatens to sabotage recent overtures by the two aimed at resuming peace talks and increasing cross-border trade.
India accused Pakistani soldiers and fighters of crossing into its portion of Kashmir a week ago and killing five Indian soldiers.
Pakistan denied its soldiers killed any Indian troops, and accused Indian soldiers of severely wounding a Pakistani citizen along the border last Thursday. India also denied the allegation.
Kashmir, the picturesque Himalayan territory is divided between India and Pakistan by the UN-monitored LoC, but both countries claim it in full.
A dozen militant groups have also been fighting Indian forces since 1989 for the independence of the disputed territory or for its merger with Pakistan.
Although violence has abated during the last decade, the fighting has left tens of thousands of people, mostly civilians, dead.
