ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - At least 15 people were killed and 28 others injured as a suicide bomber ripped through a seminary in Pakistan s northwest Peshawar city on Friday afternoon, local officials said.
Saukat Ali Yousufzai, provincial information minister, said that three militants launched a coordinated attack on Madrassa Hussainia seminary located in Gulshan Colony area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of the country s northwest Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK) province.
"Three unidentified militants opened fire at the security guards who were performing their duties at the main gate of the seminary. After killing the guards, one attacker blew himself up inside the seminary s mosque while his other two accomplices fled, " said Shaukat.
The seminary s cleric said there were around 200 people inside the mosque when the explosion happened.
Safiullah, the super-intendant police of the area, said that the suicide bomber was carrying an estimated six to eight kg of explosives in his vest and his victims included a policeman and three kids who came to offer prayers.
Hospital sources said that at least eight among the injured people were in critical condition, who are being treated under intensive care.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Police cordoned off the area and started searching for evidence from the blast site, meanwhile conducted a search operation in the area but no arrest has been made as yet.
