Summary Pakistan’s UN envoy Masood Khan has rejected Afghanistan's envoy terrorism accusation.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Pakistan s UN ambassador is angrily criticized Afghanistan s UN envoy for saying that "terrorist sanctuaries exist" in Pakistan and some elements in the country are using terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy.
Pakistani envoy Masood Khan called Afghan Ambassador Zahir Tanin s statement to the Security Council on Thursday "disingenuous" and "not good diplomacy."
Khan countered that terrorists operate on both sides of the porous border.
"Many attacks against Pakistan are planned on Afghan soil," he said. "That is why we need more aggressive policing and surveillance of the border."
Tanin said Afghans are the main victims of terrorism and "so long as terrorist sanctuaries continue to exist in Pakistan s soil and some elements continue to use terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy, peace will not prevail."
