ECP completes scrutiny of 17,000 nomination papers

Summary The ECP has, so far, received 23,200 nomination papers for the national and provincial assemblies.

 

ISLAMABAD (Online): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has, so far, received 23,200 nomination papers for the national and provincial assemblies’ seats for the upcoming general elections.

 

After completion of the initial screening of the scrutiny phase, the ECP has so far sent 17000 nomination papers including national assembly and provincial assemblies nomination papers to the concerned Returning Officers (ROs).

 

Strict scrutiny of nomination papers according to article 62 and 63 of the constitution will continue on till 7th April after which all ineligible candidates will be barred from contesting the upcoming general elections.

 

All candidates however, have the right to file appeals against the decision of Returning Officers on the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers till 10th April. Decisions on these appeals can be taken till the 17th of April after which a final list of candidates will be published on 19th April.

 

The scrutiny process is being carried out by the ECP with collaboration of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
