ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - With the deadlock persisting over the caretaker prime minister, who will oversee general elections to be held in May, the parliamentary committee has one day left to select a name for the post out of four nominees.

 

The Election Commission of Pakistan would decide the issue within two days after the committee fails in hammering out consensus.

 

Members of the committee after yesterday s (Thursday) deliberations have expressed the confidence that the matter will be resolved with consensus by the Committee.

 

Syed Khurshid Shah‚ while talking to media‚ said the committee has moved forward on the issue after detailed discussions on merits and demerits of all four names.

 

He vowed that all possible efforts would be made for the matter to be resolved in the meeting.

 

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said it will be quite unfortunate if the matter was not resolved by the committee. He said politicians should resolve political matters by themselves rather than it being resolved through non-political people.

 

Senator Pervez Rashid said they were close to finalizing the name of the Caretaker Prime Minister. He dispelled the impression that there was any deadlock in talks on the matter.

 

Sardar Yaqoob Nasir said the Committee will try to select a suitable person for the office of caretaker Prime Minister as it is a matter of national interest.
