Summary Minister for legislation to stop media from ridiculing parliamentarians.

 

ISLAMABAD (online) - National Assembly has approved the resolution against those anchor persons who telecast programmes contrary to the facts and conducting media trial of different personalities and has asked channel owners to fire such anchorpersons immediately.


Speaker National Assembly Fehmida Mirza said on the occasion that irresponsible reporting should not be done and media house owners should take notice of such irresponsible reporting.


Rehman Malik, Interior Minister has said that it is very necessary to carry out necessary legislation regarding media to prevent them from making fun of the parliamentarians in their TV talk shows.


He said that journalists’ organizations should also take action against the anchor persons who malign the politicians. He said that pre-planned propaganda against the elected representatives of the people and yellow reporting is deplorable.

 

 

The sources said that the 23rd amendment bill is likely to be presented in the National Assembly on Thursday and government’s Chief Whip in the house Syed Khurshid Shah has instructed all MNAs to attend the session.


According to the proposed amendment, the seat of the minorities would be enhanced from 10 to 14 in National as well as Provincial Assemblies. It is also learnt that no political party would be opposing the bill.


NA also adopted the Security Exchange Commission amendment bill 2013. 


Federal minister for Education Sheikh Waqas Akram lashing out at media said that he is not afraid of paid touts.


Speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly Sh Waqas said that a local paper and an anchorperson of a private TV channel insulted him. He said that media is giving air to propaganda against him.


He said that he would issue a legal notice against the anchorperson for maligning him. He said that if he can stand up against activists of banned outfits such as SSP and LeJ than he is not afraid of such paid touts.


He said that there is a dire need to remove such black sheeps from the media.
