Summary CJP says court would decide today over legitimacy of Qadri’s petition.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Dr Tahirul Qadri exchanged heated arguments today (Wednesday).

A three-member bench of the apex court resumed hearing of Qadri’s petition for reconstitution of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

During the hearing, the bench questioned Tahirul Qadri as to when he was elected as a member of the National Assembly, responding to which Qadri said he was elected as a representative from NA-127 in 2002.

The bench moreover questioned Qadri as to how his fundamental rights had been violated with the current setup of  the ECP.

The chief justice inquired Qadri that why he had suddenly returned from Canada to challenge the commission, adding that Qadri would have to convince the bench over his loyalty in the matter.

In response, Dr Qadri said he believed that he was being tried for having dual-nationality and that his loyalty was being questioned.

Qadri also lashed out at the Chief Justice saying that he has made a mockery of courts.

“You took oath under PCO, your loyalty is questionable", Qadri told CJP.

The petitioner stated that taking oath from from Queen Elizabeth or Pervez Musharraf was no more different.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that Tahirul Qadri has attempted to ridicule judiciary with his remarks.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Irfan Qadir supported Tahir-ul-Qadri, saying that he has the right to present his arguments in the court.
