Summary Secretary Election Commission says army may be deployed in Karachi and FATA.
ISLAMABAD: Istiaq Ahmad Khan says that assemblies would be dissolved on March 16.
The army will have to be called for monitoring general elections particularly in Karachi, Fata and Balochistan. The verification of voting lists would commence from December 17.
While briefing the media in Islamabad, Secretary EC said that verification of voting lists and delimitation of constituencies in Karachi would be made in accordance with the court’s orders.
He said that it is discretionary power of the government whether it would like to hold elections before March 16.
He said that he was all focused on arrangements for general elections, and would surely use the state machinery in this regard.
The secretary said that the people who indulged in firing during by-polls have been arrested.
He also claimed that more than 12 million people have verified their votes through SMS.
