Summary CJP has questioned the non-implementation of scheduling local body elections despite court orders.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a petition pertaining to the regulation of election expenses incurred by political parties.Adding remarks, CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that local body elections is a need of the constitution.During the hearing, he questioned why the court orders have not been implemented in conducting local body elections.CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that political parties were not taking interest in a bill subjecting to electoral reforms. He said people do not take interest in elections due to reports of rigging.The petition was filed by lawyer Abid Hasan Minto on behalf of the Workers Party of Pakistan, seeking reduction of expenses in elections.
