Summary Petroleum Minister Dr Asim admitted charging tax Rs 30 per litre on diesel and petrol.
He said that the government cannot subsidise in this regard; if provinces want to subsidise in this regard, they are authorized to do so on their own.Addressing joint session of the parliament, he said that purchasing price of one litre of petrol was Rs 73.58 and diesel by Rs 77.06 in March. After imposing different taxes, prices of one litre of petrol and diesel were appointed successively Rs 103 and 107.He said that price of petroleum products is appointed by OGRA which is not under the Ministry of Petroleum.He also recommended forming a parliamentary committee to discuss the matter in detail.Highlighting electricity issue, he said that subsidy on electric power caused circular debt.
