Protest erupts after police slaying of youth in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A massive protest erupted over the unjust killing of Mardan resident Taimour Riaz by Islamabad police in I-10 sector.

According to details, deceased’s relatives demonstrated and chanted slogans against the police. They also blocked the road by burning tyres and demanded to nab the officer at any cost.

However, the protest was called off after successful negotiations with police and local administration.

The incident took place when a security officer opened firing and killed Taimour for evading checkpoint. The boy lost his life on the spot whereas the girl sitting beside him remained safe.

Getting information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and shifted the body to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital for further process.

Talking to Dunya News, Taimour’s uncle said that no sign was given from police officer. He also urged the authorities to unearth CCTV footage of the incident.

Police said that medical checkup of the girl recognized as Maheen would also be carried out however, her statement has been recorded.

"I am Taimour’s friend and came from Lahore to meet him. We were going to pick another friend when the mishap took place. Taimour was alive but he succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital", Maheen said.

Meanwhile, girl’s mother also recorded statement saying her daughter’s name is Sonia who became friend with Taimour on Facebook. She said that Sonia went to Islamabad to celebrate her birthday with Taimour. 

On the other hand, SHO Saleem Shah has been suspended for not arresting the officer.
