MONTREAL (AFP) - Canadian police on Tuesday were investigating the deaths of nine people whose bodies were found in three separate but linked crime scenes, authorities and local media said.

The homicides took place in Edmonton, a city of nearly one million people in the western province of Alberta.

According to CBC News, seven of those killed were found Monday night in a north Edmonton home.

A woman s body was found in a separate house in the southwest of the city and yet another corpse was discovered in Fort Saskatchewan, CBC said.

Edmonton police did not provide immediate details except to say they were "investigating a multiple homicide scene in north Edmonton."

Citing unnamed sources, several Canadian media outlets said the crime scenes were connected.

Investigators said they would provide more information at an afternoon news conference.
