Summary Due to heavy floods in Pakistan, cement sale has dropped by 8 percent first time in last ten years.
The decline is against earlier expectation that cement sales in Pakistan will recover after fresh demand of cement especially from the flood affected areas. During the period, local cement dispatches posted a decline of 7 percent to 22 million tonnes. This decline was seen due to heavy floods along with halt in infrastructure spending amid government fiscal imbalances and delay in committed foreign disbursements.Cement exports also declined by 12 percent to 9.4 million tonnes. Development spending likely to be slashed in the current year and cement sales to post a meager recovery of 4 percent to 32.6 million tonnes, which will be lower than last 5 year average growth of 15 percent.
