TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed several senior military commanders to key positions within the country’s armed forces, according to Iranian media reports.
Major General Ali Abdollahi has been appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, while Amir Kioumars Heidari has been named Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Iranian media reported.
Major General Ahmad Vahidi has also been appointed commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), one of the country’s most powerful military and security institutions.
In another senior appointment, Major General Mostafa Izadi has been named deputy commander of the IRGC, according to the reports.
Hojjatoleslam Taeb has also been given a new responsibility and appointed head of the Basij Organization, a paramilitary volunteer force affiliated with the IRGC.
The appointments represent a significant reshuffling of Iran’s senior military leadership and could have implications for the country’s broader defence and security structure.
Iran’s armed forces are divided among several major institutions, including the regular military, known as the Artesh, and the IRGC.
