WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - Iran has reportedly softened its conditions for potential peace talks with the United States, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper claimed that Tehran is now willing to drop its demand for an immediate lifting of blockades as part of revised proposals. It also suggested that Iran may agree to hold negotiations in Pakistan next week, pending approval from the United States.

The report further stated that Iran has sent a 14-point proposal to Washington through Pakistan. Under the proposal, Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes would not be included in the initial phase of discussions. However, talks on these issues could take place later in exchange for easing US sanctions.

According to the report, discussions on reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be linked to progress on lifting blockades.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have issued contrasting statements. A senior deputy inspector at Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters said that the country’s armed forces remain on full alert and warned of the possibility of renewed confrontation with the United States. He also expressed skepticism over any potential agreement, saying past experience shows Washington does not always honour commitments.

Former US President Donald Trump, speaking in Florida, reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. He also claimed that without US intervention, regional allies including Israel and Europe would have faced severe threats.

Trump further stated that US naval forces are targeting Iranian ships and oil shipments, describing the operations in controversial terms while defending US actions as part of broader strategic objectives.
