Summary Punjab’s disaster management authority has forecast rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across most districts from October 10 to 14, warning of possible landslides in hilly areas.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a province-wide weather alert, forecasting rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in most districts from October 10 to 14.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the country’s upper regions on Saturday, bringing rain to several parts of Punjab.
Rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected on October 10, 11, 13 and 14 in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal and Mianwali.
Intermittent rain, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, is also forecast for Faisalabad, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh on October 10, 11 and 13.
PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa has directed divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert, particularly in Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas, where landslides are possible.
The authority said district administrations had been placed on alert in accordance with the chief minister’s instructions.
The health, irrigation, communications and works, local government and livestock departments have also been directed to remain prepared for potential weather-related emergencies.
Public urged to take precautions
Jappa urged residents to take precautionary measures during adverse weather and avoid living in dilapidated or mud-built houses.
People have been advised to seek shelter in safe places during strong winds and storms and avoid unnecessary travel.
Residents should also remain indoors or seek appropriate shelter during thunderstorms and avoid open areas to reduce the risk of lightning strikes.
Parents have been urged to take special care of children and keep them away from low-lying areas, electricity wires and power poles.
The PDMA said people could contact its emergency helpline at 1129 in case of an emergency.
Authorities have urged the public to follow official weather updates and safety instructions throughout the forecast period.
