ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has reaffirmed Pakistan's support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination on Youm-e-Istehsal, saying India's actions of August 5, 2019, were in clear violation of United Nations resolutions and international law.
In his message marking Youm-e-Istehsal on August 5, Tarar said the date remains a dark reminder of India's unilateral actions, when it attempted to alter the disputed status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He said India's measures taken on August 5, 2019, violated United Nations Security Council resolutions, international law and the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.
The information minister said India had failed to suppress the spirit of freedom among the Kashmiri people despite what he described as repression, restrictions and attempts to alter the demographic composition of the occupied territory.
Tarar said the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination must be recognized, adding that the only durable solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was a plebiscite held in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He urged the international community to take notice of the alleged serious human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Government of Pakistan was raising the Kashmir issue at every major international forum and that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government remained steadfast on the Kashmir cause.
The federal minister said Pakistan's political and military leadership shared a unified stance on Kashmir, adding that India must accept the realities and respect the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
He said a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute was essential for lasting peace and stability in the region, adding that Pakistan would continue its efforts for peace based on justice and stand with the Kashmiri people until they achieved their right to self-determination.
