Summary TRT World says Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in US-Iran tensions, highlighting its diplomatic role and stressing need to address economic challenges for influence.

ANKARA (Dunya News) - Turkey’s state broadcaster TRT World has said that Pakistan’s role in the evolving geopolitics of the Middle East has become increasingly prominent, particularly amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran.

According to the report, Pakistan has emerged as a credible mediator between both sides during the US-Iran standoff, adopting what it described as a quiet, structured, and effective diplomatic approach compared to other regional powers.

The report stated that the mediatory and diplomatic role of Syed Asim Munir has further strengthened Pakistan’s regional significance, describing him as a pragmatic figure focused on results-oriented diplomacy.

It added that his diplomatic approach is based on discreet engagement and backchannel communication rather than public diplomacy, maintaining contacts between Washington and Tehran even during difficult circumstances.

TRT World further said that Pakistan’s geography, military and intelligence credibility, and relations with both the United States and Iran have given it a unique diplomatic position. It added that Pakistan’s military leadership has also emerged as a guarantor of regional connectivity, economic corridors, and diplomacy.

The broadcaster noted that Pakistan maintains active relations with multiple regional and global powers, including the United States, China, Gulf states, Iran, and Turkey, while its ability to balance ties between Washington and Tehran has strengthened its diplomatic standing.

According to the report, Pakistan’s military and diplomatic credibility has further improved following recent regional tensions, while defense agreements and counter-terrorism efforts have reinforced its regional image.

TRT World also stated that counter-terrorism is now considered a key requirement for any credible regional actor and economic integration process. It added that effective diplomacy is measured by results rather than publicity.

The report concluded that Pakistan is seen as an acceptable mediator due to its lack of alignment with rigid ideological blocs, but also warned that the country must address its economic challenges to sustain its influence.
