ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engineer Amir Muqam on Tuesday said that the Pakistan will stand with the Kashmiri people till they achieve their inalienable right to self-determination, and vowed country’s continued political, diplomatic and moral support to them at all fora.
In solidarity with Kashmiris, the government of Pakistan announced to increase the monthly subsistence allowance for the refugees of Jammu and Kashmir (1989–90) to Rs 5,000 per person. Amir Muqam made the announced on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, being marked on February 5.
“The decision of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to increase the subsistence allowance is a manifestation of deep love, commitment and unwavering solidarity with the Kashmiri people,” he said in a statement issued.
Terming refugees of Jammu and Kashmir “very close to our hearts”, Engineer Amir Muqam said their reintegration, rehabilitation and dignified resettlement was among the top priorities of the government.
The minister said the government of Pakistan with a cost of Rs3 billion was working on a pilot project to construct 750 residential houses for the refugees of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had provided public land for the housing project. Since the land was limited, he said, it was being acquired through award under the legal procedure.
“The government of Pakistan considers the complete rehabilitation and resettlement of the refugees of Jammu and Kashmir not only a social responsibility, but also a national duty,” Muqam said.
