Pakistan and Turkiye reaffirm their defence and military cooperation as Turkish Chief of General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu meets Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at GHQ.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, Chief of the Turkish General Staff, called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, at the General Headquarters on Thursday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.
Upon his arrival at GHQ, General Bayraktaroglu was presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces, marking the formal commencement of the high-level military engagement.
The meeting focused on a broad range of matters of mutual interest, with detailed discussions held on the prevailing regional and global security environment. Both sides also reviewed prospects for further strengthening bilateral defence and military cooperation, reflecting the depth of strategic engagement between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The two military leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Türkiye relations and underlined the importance of maintaining close coordination between their armed forces. Emphasis was placed on enhancing defence collaboration to address evolving security challenges and to promote stability at both regional and international levels.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir highlighted the longstanding brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye, noting that it is firmly rooted in shared history, mutual trust and strong people-to-people ties. He acknowledged the continued support and cooperation extended by the Turkish Armed Forces and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening military-to-military relations between the two countries.
The Pakistan Army Chief also underscored the value of sustained engagement in advancing defence cooperation, particularly in areas that contribute to operational readiness and institutional capacity. He noted that close defence ties remain a key pillar of the broader bilateral relationship.
General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception accorded to him and commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He reiterated Türkiye’s resolve to deepen defence cooperation with Pakistan, including collaboration in training, joint exercises and capacity-building initiatives.
