LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to install digital surveillance cameras outside all schools and educational institutions across the province, aiming to tighten security and keep a close watch on sensitive areas.

She instructed Punjab Police to work jointly with the School Education Department to conduct mock drills in educational institutions. Security guards, entry checking, and CCTV cameras have been declared mandatory for all schools and colleges.

The chief minister also approved the registration of drivers and staff of buses travelling to and from Punjab from other provinces. Police and other law enforcement agencies were directed to coordinate with the Motorway Police to ensure better security arrangements.

To further improve public safety, Maryam Nawaz ordered enhanced digital monitoring in parks across Punjab. She directed the Safe City Authority to conduct a functional review of cameras province-wide and ensure full CCTV coverage in major cities, including Lahore and Rawalpindi.

She also instructed that CCTV cameras installed at homes and markets be linked with the Safe City system to help identify anti-social elements in time. The chief minister ordered that combing operations against criminal elements should continue without a break.

Regarding illegal Afghan nationals, Maryam Nawaz stressed the need to make action more effective.

She directed deputy commissioners and district police officers to maintain close contact with local elders. A computerized record of residents from other provinces living in Punjab will also be prepared to clearly distinguish them from illegal Afghan migrants.

The chief minister said no major public place in Punjab should be left without digital surveillance. “I will not rest until Punjab becomes the safest province,” she said, adding that public cooperation was key to achieving this goal.

Appealing to citizens, she urged people to stay alert, keep an eye on suspicious persons or activities in their surroundings, and immediately inform police helpline 15.

Expressing satisfaction with the overall law and order situation, Maryam Nawaz praised the police and law enforcement agencies and urged them to carry on with the same spirit.
