ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The size of the federal budget for the coming fiscal year 2026–27 is expected to remain around Rs17.5 trillion.

According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, talks with the IMF (International Monetary Fund) have been completed and an agreement has been reached on key budget targets. Only virtual negotiations between the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the IMF are still ongoing regarding relief measures for the salaried class.

It has been reported that new taxes worth Rs220 billion will be imposed in the budget. The new budget will also revise tax slabs for salaried individuals.

According to FBR sources, the threshold for the highest tax slab for salaried people will also be increased in the upcoming budget. Measures to introduce a fixed tax scheme for traders and increase sales tax on hybrid and electric vehicles have also been finalised.

Officials say additional tax collection measures are being introduced in the budget to help the FBR achieve its revenue target.
