Summary Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran was approaching the negotiations with “seriousness and goodwill”
(Web Desk) – Iran has reportedly finalised a set of demands to present to the United States as diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington continue behind the scenes in an effort to revive negotiations and ease regional tensions.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran was approaching the negotiations with “seriousness and goodwill,” adding that details of the talks would be disclosed by the relevant authorities at an appropriate time.
According to Iranian officials, Tehran wants the negotiations to address several key issues, including reducing tensions across the Middle East, securing the release of frozen Iranian assets held abroad and ensuring the safety of Iranian ships operating along international maritime routes.
Iranian media reports claimed that recent exchanges of messages between Washington and Tehran had helped narrow differences on certain issues, although mutual trust between the two sides remained fragile.
Baqaei said Iran remained cautious because of previous experiences with negotiations but stressed that Tehran was committed to the diplomatic process. He added that Iran wanted conflicts in several regional theatres, including Lebanon, to come to an end in order to lower tensions in the region.
The spokesperson also rejected what he described as inaccurate reports regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, saying speculation circulating in the media did not reflect the facts on the ground.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump confirmed that discussions with Iran were ongoing and reiterated that Washington’s main objective was to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Trump also signalled that the United States was maintaining a strict position regarding Iran’s enriched uranium reserves, an issue that remains one of the most sensitive points in the negotiations.
Separately, a senior Iranian official told a British news agency that although no final agreement had yet been reached, differences between Tehran and Washington had eased to some extent during recent diplomatic contacts.
The official said disputes surrounding uranium enrichment and Iran’s role and influence around the Strait of Hormuz continued to be major obstacles to a breakthrough.
Despite the remaining disagreements, diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and preventing further escalation are continuing through multiple channels, the official added.
