Summary The operation involved efforts to neutralise cluster munitions and other hazardous weapons
TEHRAN (Dunya News) - As many as 14 members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed and two others injured while attempting to defuse explosives, the Iranian media reported.
The incident occurred during a clearance operation in Zanjan province, where unexploded ordnance—reportedly of US and Israeli origin—detonated unexpectedly.
The operation involved efforts to neutralise cluster munitions and other hazardous weapons.
State media said more than 1,200 hectares of land in Zanjan remain contaminated with explosive materials, with some devices buried as deep as three metres underground.
Authorities have described the clearance operation as highly dangerous.
Meanwhile, Iran has softened its conditions for potential peace talks with the United States, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper claimed that Tehran is now willing to drop its demand for an immediate lifting of blockades as part of revised proposals.
It also suggested that Iran may agree to hold negotiations in Pakistan next week, pending approval from the United States.
The report further stated that Iran has sent a 14-point proposal to Washington through Pakistan.
Under the proposal, Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes would not be included in the initial phase of discussions. However, talks on these issues could take place later in exchange for easing US sanctions.
According to the report, discussions on reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be linked to progress on lifting blockades.
